Yaotzin Meza victorious at RITC 151

Both Kelly and Yaddi were scheduled to fight tonight at RITC 151, but Kelly’s opponent was a no show.  The rest of the night went great as Yaotzin earned his 16th victory with a first round TKO victory over Scott Pike.  Ben Henderson, Efrain Escudero and Victor Meza were there to support the team and help the guys to get ready.

Here is a short video that shows some of the highlights of the night.  Great work tonight Yaddi!

JCBJJ Featured Student of the Month: April 2011

Well, I know it says “student” of the month, but I couldn’t resist.  This month I want to introduce you to the Cameron family….all 7 of them!

The 5 kids; Ryon, Lauren, Tyler, Matthew and Christopher, train kickboxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu at the MMA Lab.  They are all competition standouts and just all around wonderful kids.

Their Mom and Dad, Linda and Josh, have trained in kickboxing, jiu jitsu and conditioning classes at the Lab too.  Chances are, if you have been in an evening class at the Lab, one of the Camerons has been there with you.

This family has been an integral and important part of the MMA Lab as we have grown and we are all very fond of them.

Hope you enjoy meeting them, they are awesome!

Welcome to the club!

Luis Ordonez became the newest MMA Lab/JCBJJ purple belt today.  Luis is a big asset at the academy, assisting in classes and the helping the Elite fight team prepare for upcoming events.  Congratulations Luis, this belt is well deserved!

Ben getting ready for Bocek in Toronto

Ben has been in camp for the huge card in Canada, UFC 129.  The biggest live event in UFC history, it is also Benson’s debut under the UFC banner.

Here is a video they shot for the WEC, but it is still fun to watch.  Thanks to everyone for the support, we will be ready for Toronto.

Bonus Technique: The Chainsaw

This is one you have to see…. Larry is an assistant wrestling coach at Grand Canyon University and has been training for his MMA debut on April 30.  During practice he was hitting this move on some pretty accomplished folks, so I had to make him share.  Thanks a lot Larry!

Efrain victorious in Tijuana!

Efrain took care of business this weekend in Mexico, defeating Strikeforce veteran Ashe Bowman in a dominant unanimous decision.  Ashe was  game, but Efrain prove to be too much and was able to control the entire fight on his feet and on the ground.  Efrain continues to impress, building his win streak to 3 since leaving the UFC.

Here is a video showing some pre-fight stuff and some fight highlights of Friday night’s contest.  Hope you guys like it!
